欧州連合と中国政府は、7月20日付、地理的表示に関する保護協力協定（Agreement between the European Union and the Government of the People’s Republic of China on cooperation on, and protection of, geographical indications）を発効させた。中国の公示は、7月24日付。なお、この協定は欧州連合委員会が2010年から交渉を継続しており、欧州連合にとっては最初の二国間協定である。
本協定では双方100の地理的表示についての保護を約束し、今後更に175の地理的表示を追加する予定となっている。対象のGIはEUの公示を参照ください。
